Will Collins (Salisbury) tied for second in the Cardinal Amateur held in Greensboro, shooting 67-66-70 — 203.
Collins finished four shots back. He made three birdies on Sunday, but he bogeyed the 17th hole and took a double bogey on No. 18.
Collins didn’t make a bogey during Friday’s first round and made six birdies in Saturday’s second round to offset two bogeys.
The Country Club of Salisbury held a two-day, Member-Member tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Overall low gross winner was the team of Roy and Glenn Dixon at 69 – 66 — 135.
Carl Repsher and Charlie Sowers won overall low net, shooting 63-65 — 128. They won in sudden death playoff over Bob Rusher and James Poe.
The Dixons won low gross for the first flight
Stephen Bullock and Guy Hoskins shot 66– 69 — 135 to win low net.
Blake Wray and Darren Miller shot 70 -72 — 142 to win low gross for the second flight. Bryan Overcash and Jay Dees shot 69 -65 — 134 to win low net.
In the third flight, Bob Chinn and Bob Mangum shot 69-72 — 141 to win low gross. Winning low net with 69-62 — 131 were Jim Hayes and Russ Priddy.
Fourth flight low gross winner was the team of Bob Rusher and James Poe with 71-73 — 144.
Terry Mulkey and Tyler Mulkey shot 62-70 — 132 to win low net.
In the fifth flight, Repsher and Sowers shot 75-75 — 150 for low gross honors. Jason Sparger and John Hlavacek shot 69-60 — 129 for low net honors.
Legion World Series
Erik Van Meetren had four RBIs and four RBIs as Nevada outscored New Jersey 14-10 in an elimination game on Sunday.
Minnesota got four hits each from Ryan Maenke and Tyler Peterson and blasted Southeast Regional champion Gaffney, S.C., 12-2 in an elimination game on Sunday.
Mississippi beat Gaffney 3-1 in a second-round game.
Mississippi and Michigan were to play late Sunday night, with the winner remaining unbeaten in the double-elimination event.
Those two teams, as well as Minnesota and Nevada, will continue play today in Shelby.
Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators fell 6-3 to West Virginia at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Sunday. Rangel Ravelo and Keenyn Walker had two hits each for the Intimidators.
Wade Moore (West Rowan, Catawba) scored three runs for Hagerstown in Sunday’s 9-1 romp against Lexington. Moore went 1-for-2 and walked twice.
Spencer Steedley (East Rowan) had a terrific outing on Sunday for New Britain. Steedley started on the mound in a seven-inning game and pitched four shutout innings. He struck out four and picked off a runner.
Keegan Linza (North Rowan) was credited with his first pro save on Sunday as Bristol beat Greeneville, Tenn., 11-7.
He retired the only batter he faced with two men on in the ninth.
Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) went 1-for-2 in a 5-2 win against Frederick and pushed his batting average to .246.
