Concord Police and Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad disabled a suspicious device found Monday at the corner of Bruton Drive and McGill Avenue near the railroad tracks.
At 8:42 p.m., the Concord Communications Center received a call from a motorist traveling on Bruton Drive who said he had found a suspicious device at the intersection.
Concord Police confirmed the suspicious device and set up a perimeter around the affected area, then contacted the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad. The Concord Fire and Life Safety Department and Cabarrus County EMS assisted. A special agent from Norfolk Southern Police and a special agent from the ATF assisted the Concord Police with the scene.
The bomb squad retrieved the device with their mobile robot. The device was moved to a safe location and disabled.
Concord Police investigators, along with a special agent with the ATF conducted a complete crime scene search of the area. The investigation is ongoing, and residents of the area are asked to report any suspicious activity they may have seen.
