The NFL notebook …
ALLEN PARK, Mich. ó Ndamukong Suh was fined $20,000 by the NFL on Wednesday for a hit on Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton, the third penalty of its kind for the Detroit Lions defensive end in the past year.
Suh didn’t like it much: He responded on his Twitter account before practice: “$20,000REALLY???!!!”
The reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year grabbed the Bengals quarterback and threw Dalton to the turf after he had gotten rid of the ball late in the first quarter of Friday’s preseason game. Suh was flagged for unnecessary roughness.
Suh was fined twice last year for roughing up quarterbacks, including Chicago’s Jay Cutler and Cleveland’s Jake Delhomme in a preseason game.
TITAN BACKS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. ó The Titans want Chris Johnson in camp as soon as possible. While he stays away, Javon Ringer, rookie Jamie Harper and Stafon Johnson are working hard to take advantage of the extra work this preseason.
Ringer is going into his third season, and the All-American at Michigan easily has stepped up as the No. 1 running back during training camp. Harper was Tennessee’s fourth-round draft pick in April out of Clemson, and the heaviest back on the team at 233 pounds is ready to provide a change of pace.
JETS
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. ó Aaron Maybin is getting a second chance to jumpstart his career with the New York Jets.
The once-promising linebacker was waived by Buffalo on Monday after two disappointing seasons in which he had no sacks and was never in the team’s starting lineup.
BURGLARY
CHARLOTTE ó Authorities in North Carolina say the Charlotte apartment of a Carolina Panthers football player was hit by burglars while he was away at the team’s training camp.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a burglary at the home of defensive tackle Corvey Irvin.
Police found a rear door smashed and several items taken. The missing items include a $1,000 pair of Louis Vuitton sunglasses, a $500 television, and an Xbox 360.
