At least 13 Rowan Countians will be among the World War II veterans on the Sept. 17 Flight of Honor to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Rotary District 7680ís previous six flights have sent more than 600 World War II veterans from the 14 counties to see their memorial. The one-day trip is at no cost to the veterans.
This final flight Sept. 17 will send approximately 120 veterans to Washington.
Rotary District 7680 encompasses 55 clubs in Anson, Ashe, Alleghany, Alexander, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Richmond, Rowan, Stanly, Union, and Wilkes counties.
Each flight costs more than $60,000 for the chartered plane, buses for transportation in Washington, lunch, wheelchair rentals and other expenses. Contributions are deductible under the federal tax code. Additional information is on the website: www.flightofhonor.org.
