Ike Emerson earns Eagle Scout award

James Isaiah “Ike” Emerson, 13, of High Rock Lake, is receiving his Eagle Scout award today, Sept. 18, 2011, at The Gazebo at St. John’s Lutheran Church Child Development Center, which Ike built as his Eagle project. Presenting the award is Chuck Bowman of the Central North Carolina Council, BSA.
Ike joined scouting in 2004 as a first-grader with Cub Scout Pack 443, where he achieved his Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos levels and earned the highest award in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light. He also earned the God and Me and God and Family awards.
After joining Troop 448 in 2009, Ike has earned the God and Church award, served as patrol leader for one year, bugler and assistant senior patrol leader.
Ike built The Gazebo at St. John’s Child Development Center to serve as an outdoor learning center. With the help of other Scouts and volunteers, the project was completed in just over 300 hours.
The son of James and Bonnie Emerson of High Rock Lake, Ike is an eighth-grader at Erwin Middle School. At Erwin, he has been on the all-A honor roll every year; is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the Student Diversity Group; is a Student Council classroom representative and First Chair Trumpet in the band; and has participated in football, basketball and golf. He has also been involved in baseball with East Rowan Little League.
A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ike is currently in the two-year confirmation program and has served as element bearer and acolyte. He has also been active in the community, volunteering at the homeless shelter, with Project Santa and the Salvation Army Food Drive.
