Smoke rises from a structure at 130 Sunset Drive off South Main Street on Friday as Salisbury firefighters work inside to ensure there are no remaining flames to douse.
Salisbury Fire Department Battalion Chief Jay Baker said firefighters put out the blaze within minutes of arriving after receiving several calls from passersby around 7 p.m. He said fire and smoke did significant damage to the apparently unoccupied former business. An investigation was to be done later to determine what caused the fire. The Locke and Granite Quarry fire departments, the Rowan Rescue Squad and Rowan EMS also responded. The Salisbury Police Department blocked part of South Main.
