Twenty-five Arc of Rowan clients got to hang the “gone fishin’ ” sign recently as they took part in the 16th annual outing at Hills Minnow Farm on Bringle Ferry Road. The Hills Bassmasters Club and Hills Crappie Club hosted the event, with help from the East Rowan High School student council.
The fishing takes place at a pond behind the store. The Arc clients each get a guide to help them bait and cast, tackle and bait and a ball cap. This year, they also got a poncho. They have the opportunity to catch bream, crappie, catfish, bass and carp. Arc of Rowan Director Jane Jackman said the clients look forward to the event all year and are happy when they catch a fish.
Each participant got a trophy, with bigger ones going to Terry George, who caught the biggest fish; James Lawrence, who caught the most fish; and John Leonard, whose total catch weighed the most.
A number of individuals and businesses made donations to the event, including supplies for a picnic after the fishing.
