COOLEEMEE — For the ninth year, RiverPark has invited its Davie and Rowan County neighbors to a meal to raise needed funds for keeping the nature park open, clean and safe. This year’s fish fry on Oct. 15 will begin at 11 a.m. and end promptly at 2 p.m.
“When I think back to what this place was like in 2002,” says RiverPark Vice President John Peeler, “I am amazed at the progress.” That was before the Bullhole was transformed from a rustic gathering place to a genuine, family-oriented park with amenities. “The Cooleemee side is next. We are all looking forward to that bridge,” says Peeler. The bridge will span the river, connecting both sides.
RiverPark Catfish Fry tickets are $8 and that buys catfish, fries, hush puppies, slaw, dessert and a drink. Kids plates are $3.50. Frying is done by the “Three Rons” (Bivins, Shoaf and Webb) along with their Bullhole Cook Gang. All cooks and servers are volunteers.
This year’s event has a number of sponsors including Rowan Memorial Medical Center, Cheerwine and many local businesses. Tickets are available in Cooleemee at Village Auto Center and the Zachary House, in Mocksville at the Chamber of Commerce, and in Salisbury at the LandTrust in the Old Depot.
