SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman was arrested in court on Wednesday after she testified on the stand that she lied to officers about a domestic dispute that kept her boyfriend behind bars for 19 days.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Amanda Kay Smith, 28, lied to officers on Oct. 1 when she filed a report and told authorities she had been assaulted and choked by her then-boyfriend Steven Jerome Anthony Polk Jr.
According to the report, Smith took the stand in Probable Court Room 3 on Wednesday and told the court that she lied to authorities and falsified marks on her body to appear as an assault victim.
Smith was asked in court to read the statement she gave to authorities on Oct. 1. After reading the statement, she then told the court that the statement was a fabrication.
Smith was charged with filing a false report to police radio broadcasting station. She was given a $25,000 bond and was in jail on Thursday.
Polk, who has previously been convicted of four counts of assault on a female, had his case immediately dismissed by the court.
