A Salisbury woman was charged with driving while intoxicated Thursday after she nearly hit a Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy head on.
Paula Chamberlain, 41, of 4470 Hampton Road, had a blood alcohol content of .24, three times the legal limit, when she crossed the center line and missed hitting Sgt. Phillip Kepley, according to the report.
Kepley was traveling north on U.S. 601 when Chamberlain turned right onto the highway from Cauble Road.
He followed her to Pop’s Country Store.
When he asked her if she had been drinking she replied she had two 24-ounce cans of Ice House beer and a mixed drink.
Chamberlain blew a .20 and .18 at the scene before she was taken to magistrate’s office and charged.
Chamberlain was placed in jail until someone could pick her up. She has been released on a written promise to appear in court.
