ROCKWELL — The Rockwell Amvets Ladies Auxiliary hosted Festival of Heroes at the town’s community park Saturday.
Participants included police, who did fingerprint IDs of children, fire departments and the Rowan County rescue squad, county emergency personnel and the National Guard.
In addition to fire and rescue units they could inspect, children enjoyed face painting and a bounce house, along with treat bags and refreshments.
The event was part of USA Weekend Magazine’s annual Make a Difference Day. It’s the nation’s largest single day of service, with an estimated 3 million participants pitching in on projects from Alaska to Hawaii.
