KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown High School has received a $60,000 grant from the Foy T. and Gertrude M. Hinson Memorial Trust.
The money will be used to add materials to the A.L. Brown Media Center. Among the items the grant will provide are books, encyclopedias, a document camera, DVDs, electronic books and Kindles.
The grant will make it possible to expand A.L. Brown Media Center’s print collection and help meet the growing demand for electronic books and e-readers.
“We added six Kindles to the library last year,” said Susan Monteith, the school’s media coordinator. “They’ve been extremely popular, and the waiting list is growing every day.
“This grant will help us add more Kindles, which are great tools for getting more students to read.”
The grant will also pay for other resources such as encyclopedias and books to the library for research and reading.
“We’re so grateful to the Hinson Trust for giving our students the tools they need to be successful, and we appreciate their support,” Monteith said.
Media Coordinator Katie Bogle said the new materials provided by the grant are being ordered now and should be available to students starting in late November.
