ENOCHVILLE — Two Concord men were arrested on drug charges Saturday night in an Enochville convenience store parking lot.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Tanner Gilbert Varley and Ryan Keith Furr “appeared to be passed out” in a 2005 Toyota Scion in the parking lot of Xpress Mart at 2720 West C Street at about 8:30 p.m.
Highway Patrol Trooper K.G. Barringer attempted to wake the men, the report said, and “startled” them when he knocked out one of the vehicle’s windows.
A bag of marijuana was visible inside the car, officers reported, and the men attempted to hide the drugs after being awakened by Barringer.
At that time, the report said, the driver “took his foot off the brake and the car rolled into Barringer’s patrol car.”
Furr and Varley were immediately searched and taken into custody. The report said the damage to the trooper’s vehicle was minimal.
Deputies reported that officers found nine Xanax bars, a syringe and a spoon, along with a small baggie with one tablet of Opana in it, in 20-year-old Furr’s possession. Xanax is typically used to treat anxiety disorders. Opana contains an opium derivative and is used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Authorities also said they found a small bag of marijuana and a marijuana cigar in 17-year-old Varley’s possession.
Furr, 61 Cascade Drive, Concord, was charged with felony possession of narcotics, misdemeanor possession of narcotics and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Varley, 4485 Triumph Drive, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were both released after posting a $1,000 bond.
Authorities said Furr was carrying the wallet of Jeffrey Hamilton Kincaid, 480 Saw Road.
Furr told deputies, according to the report, that he had permission to withdraw funds from the store’s ATM machine.
After being contacted, Kincaid told deputies that he did not give Furr permission, but did not wish to press charges.
About two and half hours later, according to Salisbury Police, Kincaid was charged on citation after police said he ran into a vehicle lift at Exhaust Systems Inc. at 4350 S. Main St. in Salisbury.
Police said they found one gram of marijuana, a marijuana smoking device and several empty bottles of liquor in Kincaid’s green 1998 Ford Escort.
The car was found on its roof, the report said, and the business also listed the lift as having been damaged in the crash.
Kincaid, 43, was cited for misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while intoxicated.
