SALISBURY — A Trinity woman was taken to the hospital and cited on a driving while impaired charge after she lost control of her vehicle Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 85.
According to incident reports, 61-year-old Kay Duggins Albertson was chased by authorities from the Yadkin River Bridge to near the Webb Road exit on southbound I-85.
The report said State Highway Patrol troopers clocked Albertson’s black Nissan 350Z going 104 miles per hour in a 65 zone at about 12:15 p.m.
“The vehicle almost struck me and several other cars,” one trooper stated in the report. Albertson “ran off the right shoulder and almost struck a pole.”
After losing control, the woman’s vehicle came to a rest facing north in the southbound lane.
The car did not appear to have any damage on the scene Tuesday afternoon and the report did not indicate any other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Albertson appeared “very confused, very unsteady on feet,” the report said.
Through slurred speech, Albertson told officers that she was wearing a Fentanyl patch, the report said. Fentanyl is commonly used for treating chronic or long-term pain.
Albertson was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center for a blood test. She was later cited for driving while impaired and reckless driving.
