Local band member Kenny Thomas has been upgraded to good condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as he recovers from a stabbing.
Thomas was stabbed multiple times in the 600 block of South Jackson Street at about 1:45 a.m. Monday.
Authorities said Thomas dragged himself to the intersection and called 911.
The 35-year-old was immediately taken by helicopter to the Winston Salem hospital.
Thomas was listed in critical condition Monday after being taken into emergency surgery.
Thomas is a member of local band Yadkin River Theory. The band was scheduled to play their next event in December.
Tripp Edwards, friend and fellow band member, told the Post on Monday that he was “at a loss for words” after hearing about the incident.
Edwards and other band members drove to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Monday to see Thomas.
Edwards said hospital staff initially refused their admittance, but after Thomas awoke from the surgery he asked for his friends.
“They were apprehensive about letting us go see him,” Edwards said on Monday, “considering he was a victim of a violent crime.”
Salisbury Police have not released any additional information about the incident.
