The 22nd annual NCHSAA state championships in girls dual team tennis will be held Saturday at Burlington Tennis Center.
The 3A and 4A state finals will start at 10 a.m., with the 1A and 2A matches at 1 p.m.
All eight finalists are conference champions that advanced through four rounds of the playoffs and earned regional titles with victories on Wednesday.
In 2A, Salisbury (19-1), the three-time defending champion and a seven-time state champ, battles Hillsborough Cedar Ridge (21-2). Salisbury is in the finals for the seventh straight time.
In 3A, Charlotte Catholic (20-2) will take on Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (24-5) in a rematch of last year’s title match.
In 4A, Raleigh Broughton (22-0) makes its third straight trip to the championships and faces Greensboro Grimsley (16-3).
In 1A, North Carolina School of Science and Math (18-0) takes on Mount Airy (25-1).
Prep cross country
NCHSAA championships in cross country will be held at Beeson Park in Kernersville on Saturday.
Top runners from across the state qualified from regional competition last week to the state finals in each classification.
East Rowan’s boys and Gray Stone’s girls qualified as teams for the state event.
Last year’s champs were Cary Green Hope (4A boys and girls), Chapel Hill (3A boys), Cardinal Gibbons (3A girls), Carrboro (2A boys and girls), Robbinsville (1A boys) and Hendersonville (1A girls).
Prep volleyball
The 36th edition of the NCHSAA state volleyball championships is set for Saturday at Raleigh’s historic Reynolds Coliseum.
The opener of the quadrupleheader at noon is for the 3A championship, with defending champ Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (21-3) taking on North Iredell (29-0) in a rematch of last year’s final.
Gibbons returns to the championships for the seventh consecutive year (in two different classifications) and is led by Madison Bugg, the MVP of the last two 3A championships. Bugg is headed to Stanford.
North Iredell won the 2008 state title.
The 4A final at 2:30 pits Wilmington Hoggard (22-3) against Charlotte Providence (27-2). Providence is back in the finals for the seventh time, while Hoggard makes its fifth trip to the finals.
The 1A championship at 5 p.m matches North Carolina School of Science and Math (18-7) against North Stokes (22-6).
The 2A championship at 7:30 sends Elizabeth City Northeastern (22-0) against Newton-Conover (28-5).
Prep softball
South Rowan senior infielder Kaitlyn Jones has verbally committed to Belmont Abbey and plans to sign next week.

Free hoops clinic
Andy Poplin Basketball School will hold a free coaches clinic on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 until noon at Jay M. Robinson High School.
All youth league basketball coaches (and basketball fans) are invited to a time of sharing ideas for working with young players.
Boys/Girls club, upward, recreation, CYAA, AAU as well as school coaches are welcome.
Clinic speakers will include Chris Louk (Winecoff Youth Basketball Association), Michael Johns (head football coach at Mount Pleasant), Glenn Taylor (head basketball coach at Cannon School) Robinson head basketball coaches Lin Smithson and Joe Pike.
There will be a classroom segment followed by on-the- court workouts, which will include Coach Smithson and the Robinson girls basketball team.
No registration is required and you can stay as long as you like and leave whenever you’ve had enough.

Women’s soccer
Belmont Abbey’s Kristin Foster scored twice to lead the Crusaders to a 3-1 win against Pfeiffer in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Thursday.
Catawba sophomore Anna Toole earned second team All-SAC honors. The defender was the lone selection from Catawba.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Catherine Hauck was named SAC Player of the Year for the second straight season. L-R’s Hanna Kiebel was named SAC Freshman of the Year.
College men’s hoops
Catawba plays at Tulsa’s Reynolds Center on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Tulsa beat Southwest Baptist 92-73 in a previous exhibition game. Jordan Clarkson scored 23 points for the Hurricane.
Women’s hoops
Pfeiffer freshman Jodie Lemons hit four 3-pointers in a 112-27 exhibition loss at Duke on Thursday night inside historic Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils had 32 steals in the win.
Duke started the game with a 12-0 run and led 53-16 at halftime.
Pfeiffer plays in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
College men’s soccer
Catawba forward Carson Smith, midfielder Corey Faughnan and defender Domhnall Minogue were second team All-SAC picks.
Catawba plays Lenoir-Rhyne today at 3 p.m. in Rock Hill in a SAC semifinal.
Youth football
The Salisbury 49ers football organization played three games in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference playoffs over the weekend.
The 9-10 age group lost 6-0 in triple overtime. The 11-12 group lost in overtime 34-32. The 7-8 group advanced to this week’s semifinals in Mooresville with a 30-12 victory.
