Lee Street Theatre will once again transform the black box theater at the Looking Glass Artists Collective for three evenings of “Songs by Request.”
Set in a candle lit nightclub from the 1940s, seven singers and a pianist will perform solos, duets, and full-group renditions of some songs requested from last May’s performances of “Movie Memories.” Performances dates are Nov. 17-19 (Thursday-Saturday). Doors open at 6:45; the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Returning to the Lee Street stage will be Becky Lippard, Carol Harris, Patsy Parnell, Mary Ann McCubbin, John Brincefield and Kent Bernhardt. In addition, Matt Newton, Catawba College graduate and music director at First United Church of Christ, joins the group on stage for the first time.
Matthew Brown, pianist and director of music at First United Methodist Church, will accompany the singers.
There will be many familiar classics including “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Never Never Land,” “If They Could See Me Now,” “Mr. Sandman,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Leader of the Pack” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to her Face.“
Admission is $10; beer and wine will be available. Lee Street Theatre is not set up to take reservations, so guests are invited to come early and visit the art gallery and LGAC artists’ shop.
Looking Glass Artists Collective is located at 405 N. Lee St. at the corner of Kerr St.
