Catawbaís menís basketball team topped Morris 88-72 in Saturdayís third-place game in the Highway 52 Shootout at Livingstoneís Trent Gym..
Keon Moore led the Indians (1-1) with 22 points and 10 boards. He was 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
Tyrece Little scored 18 and blocked two shots. Willie Gilmore contributed 13 points and four assists.
Catawba was clinging to a slim lead at 70-67 with 5:47 left but then broke it open with an 18-5 run.
Morris made 27 turnovers.
Catawba is home against St. Augustineís at 7 p.m. on Friday.
n Womenís hoops
Livingstoneís Kelcyn Manurs scored a career-high 24 points on Friday in an 83-73 loss to Ohio Valley in the CIAA/WVIAC Challenge.
n On Saturday in the CIAA/WVIAC Challenge, Livingstone beat Bluefield State 78-59.
Jasmine Murray had a career game for the Blue Bears with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Manurs scored 20 points while Tiffany Evans added 11.
n Pfeiffer lost to Lenoir-Rhyne 84-82 in overtime on Friday despite 30 points by Brittany Cox and Christina Harveyís 22 points and 10 rebounds.
n Pfeiffer was smacked 85-53 by Mars Hill on Saturday. Shelley Reese led the Falcons with 12 points.
n College softball
Pfeifferís softball program announced the hiring of former Catawba slugger Allie Marshall as an assistant coach. Marshall set Catawba records for career hits, homers (43) and RBIs (202).
n College volleyball
Catawba blasted Mars Hill 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 in a SAC tournament semifinal played at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.
The second-seeded Indians (23-6) got 10 kills and eight digs from Kaitlyn Whitmer and nine kills and 10 digs from Shay Meeks. Jordan Raye had 34 assists, while Jenny Young contributed 27 digs.
Catawba advanced to play five-time defending champ Wingate in todayís title match at 2 p.m. Wingate beat Tusculum 3-0 in a semifinal.
n Division II football
Unbeaten Winston-Salem State whipped Elizabeth City State 38-18 in Durham on Saturday for the CIAA Championship and is headed to the Division II playoffs.
The Rams (11-0) rushed for 315 yards and won their first CIAA title in 11 years.
Nicholas Cooper rushed 24 times for 163 yards for the Rams and scored three TDs.
Daronte McNeill carried the Vikings with 145 rushing yards and two scores.
n Mars Hill claimed a share of the SAC championship with a 23-20 home win against Carson-Newman on Saturday. The Lions shared the title with Lenoir-Rhyne. Ranked second in the region coming in, the Lions (8-2, 6-1) will be heading to the Division II playoffs.
Jonas Randolph, the nationís leading rusher, romped for 232 yards and scored all three TDs for the Lions. Andy Hibbett led the Eagles (5-6, 3-4) with 107 rushing yards, but coach Ken Sparks was denied his 300th career win and saddled with his first losing season.
n Tusculumís Torrey Slaven passed for 295 yards and four touchdowns in Saturdayís 38-20 SAC victory against Wingate. The Pioneersí defense racked up eight sacks.
n Newberry (4-6, 4-3) closed the season with a 42-24 SAC win against Brevard. W.T. Murden completed 17-of-24 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolves.
n College cross country
In the D-I Southeast Region Championships held in Louisville on Saturday, Western Carolinaís Olivia Jacobs (South Rowan) finished 132nd in a 6K race in 22:48.
n USC Upstateís Ross Oden (East Rowan was 148th in the menís 10 K race in 33:37.
n Sacred Heart basketball
Sacred Heartís varsity boys beat Immaculate Heart of Mary 49-33 to advance to the championship game of the Tip Off Tournament being played at the Boyd Dolphin Tank.
Joseph Harrison led the Dolphins with 24 points. Reilly Gokey chipped in with nine, Max Fisher had seven, and Spencer Storey scored six.
Arun Kelly-Rajan had seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Walker Latimer contributed six rebounds.
n North Hills beat Salisbury Academy 55-32 in the other varsity boys semifinal.
n In varsity girls games, Immaculate Heart of Mary advanced to the championship with a 30-17 win over Sacred Heart and North Hills defeated Salisbury Academy 33-18.
n Salisbury Academyís jayvee girls beat North Hills 12-10 to reach the championship game against IMH.
n In the jayvee boys championship game, Sacred Heart won 32-23 against North Hills.
Sacred Heart was led by Michael Childress with 14 points, seven rebounds and nine steals.
Will Taylor had eight points and six rebounds. Jack Fisher had eight rebounds and Eric Turnbull pulled down six.
Childress and Taylor were picked for the all-tournament team.
