Industrial Supply Solutions Inc. has promoted Rocky Corbett to materials manager, responsible for purchasing and inventory management.
Corbett has been with ISSI for more than 11 years, working in integrated supply management, inside sales and purchasing.
He and his wife, Mary Beth, have two children, both attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The Corbetts live in Salisbury.

Food Lion chief on Duke Children’s Hospital board executive panel
DURHAM — Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center has added Food Lion President Cathy Green Burns to the Duke Children’s National Board of Advisors Executive Committee. She will chair a major fundraising initiative.
Green Burns attended Duke Children’s National Board of Advisors quarterly board meeting on Nov. 3 in Durham. The meeting coincided with the 2011 Duke Children’s Holiday and All-Occasion Card Program kick-off.
She also serves on the national board of directors for the Network of Executive Women (NEW) and is a member of the national board of governors for Children��s Miracle Network Hospitals. She is co-chair of the Produce Traceability Initiative.
She lives in Davidson with husband, Ty, and two daughters.

6-year-old honored for donating birthday gifts to food drive
STATESVILLE — The Cooperative Council of North Carolina recently honored 6-year-old Tatum Rhyne, of Ellerbe for her donations to the Carolina Farm Credit Food drive. Tatum is the daughter of Matthew and Jennifer Rhyne.
Rhyne asked everyone who attended her birthday party to bring non-perishable food items instead of gifts so that she could donate them to Carolina Farm Credit’s food drive. She received a special community service award for her donations at the annual Co-op Month Celebration held in Raleigh on Oct. 25. Rhyne was presented with a TV and several DVDs from the Council.
Carolina Farm Credit donated $3,750 and 4,300 pounds of food to local food banks. The Co-Op Council presented a Co-Op Community Service Award to Carolina Farm Credit at the celebration for their participation.
Carolina Farm Credit has service centers in areas that include Salisbury, Albemarle, Concord, Lexington, Mocksville and Statesville.

Shoppers now have incentive to support small, independently owned businesses. on Small Business Saturday, which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

American Express is offering a $25 statement credit to a limited number of members who pre-register their eligible on www.facebook.com, and then spend at least $25 at a small business on Small Business Saturday with their registered Card. FedEx distributed 40,000 $25 Shop-Small-branded gift cards through www.facebook.com to drive more business to small retailers.
This year, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a nonpartisan organization that educates and advocates on behalf of women-owned businesses, will organize Small Business Saturday events in 15 cities on Nov. 26 to drive even more customers into small businesses.
