KANNAPOLIS — Three officers have been promoted at the Kannapolis Police Department.
Lt. Kenneth Jackson has been promoted to the rank of captain; Sgt. Damian Josey has been promoted to lieutenant; and Master Police Officer Allen Henry Tomlin Jr. has been promoted to sergeant.
“We are very proud of all three of these officers,” Police Chief James W. Chavis said in a press release. “They have all displayed the positive leadership skills necessary to succeed in their new positions. They are highly motivated and respected by their fellow officers. They are positive role models and invaluable assets to the agency, as well as the law enforcement profession. ”
Jackson began his career with the Kannapolis Police Department as a patrol officer in August 1997. He was promoted to sergeant in July 2001 and to lieutenant in February 2008. Jackson has served in the patrol and criminal investigation divisions during his career and most recently as head of the community services unit. His current assignment will be as commander of the field operations bureau. In addition to his regular duties, Jackson is a certified polygraph examiner and a member of the agency’s ceremonial honor guard.
Jackson is a 1984 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and served 1986–1990 in the U.S. Army where he was awarded numerous badges, ribbons and medals including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He worked for the N.C. Department of Corrections for seven years before joining the Kannapolis Police Department. Jackson earned an associate degree criminal justice from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in 1997. He also holds an advanced law enforcement certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and has completed 2,876 hours of professional training. Jackson is married to Janice Horne Jackson. They have two sons, Joshua Kenneth and Caleb Ryan.
Josey began his career with Kannapolis Police Department as a patrol officer in November 1990 and was designated as a field training officer in November 1996. He has served as an officer in several capacities during his career, including patrol, traffic and criminal investigations. He was promoted to sergeant in March 2006 and was most recently assigned to the community services unit. He will serve as a patrol lieutenant in his new assignment.
Josey holds an advanced law enforcement certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and has completed 4,643 hours of professional training. He is a 1987 graduate of Concord High School and is currently attending classes at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to earn an associates degree in criminal justice. Josey is the son of Cynthia Ann Josey Davis and he has one daughter, Diamonn Da’Shae Josey.
Tomlin began his career with Kannapolis Police Department as a patrol officer in September 1998. In September 2000 he was designated a field training officer, and in May 2010 he was assigned as a negotiator for the agency’s special response team. He was designated master police officer in January 2011. He will serve as a patrol sergeant in his new assignment.
Tomlin holds an advanced law enforcement certificate from the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and has completed 2,175 hours of professional training. He is a 1994 graduate of Concord High School. He is married to Joann Ylitalo.
