The N.C. Department of Transportation will suspend work on the I-85 widening project in Concord from Sunday, Nov. 20, until Tuesday night, Nov. 29. The contractor, Lane Construction, will not close any lanes during this time, easing travel for motorists over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The $125 million project includes widening 6.8 miles of I-85 to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to N.C. 73 (Exit 55), and to build new interchanges at Poplar Tent Road (Exit 52) and N.C. 73. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2013.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
