Sigma Gamma Rho
The Lambda Epsilon Sigma Salisbury Alumnae of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. participated in the American Diabetes Association walk on Oct. 29 to kick off American Diabetes Month.
On Nov. 5 the chapter welcomed new members Patrina Brown, Erikka Gale-Lane, Pamela Holley-Bright and Vernae McDonald under the leadership of Zellua Sistruck-Moore and her membership team. The chapter held a new members and Founders Day Observance Reception at the Wrenn House with family, friends and guests. Sigma was supported by the Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
The sorority celebrated Founders Day on Nov. 12 with members of the Charlotte Chapter at Johnson C. Smith University, and Prematurity Awareness Day Observance on Nov. 18. The Rhoer Club and LES Chapter will host monthly meetings at the Rowan County Library on Nov. 19 at noon. The chapter will wrap up November by participating in Adopt A Family for the holidays with Nazareth Childrenís Home.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sororityís aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization’s programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.

Womanís Club news
LeAnne Johnson, Historical Interpreter 11 and Volunteer Coordinator at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, informed the club members of recent changes at the Transportation Museum including the admission fees. She explained the scope of various types of transportation housed at the museum and the different activities patrons can participate in on site, and asked for volunteers.
She also discussed the holiday special events: the upcoming Santa Train and Cookies And Cocoa with Santa (www.nctrans.org)
Chaplain Ann Bingham presented thoughts on thankfulness with emphasis on being grateful for failure and the life lessons learned from it.
President Angela Bates presided during the business session where members chose names for the Be A Santa To A Senior project and made plans for December contributions to Family Crisis Center.
Hostesses Irmingard von Grabe and Betty Mohs decorated the tables with harvest and Thanksgiving motifs. Trinity Oaks catered the luncheon.
Rowan Doll Society
The Rowan Doll Societyís latest display is showing at the Rowan public library until the end of November. Entitled ěMiss Row Ann,î it is a re-telling of some of the actual history of Rowan County using dolls, miniatures and toys. The display contains Miss Row Ann as the centerpiece, dressed in a reproduction of the famous 18th century dress worn to George Washingtonís inaugural ball. The actual dress is housed in the Utzman-Chambers House in Salisbury.
Surrounding Miss Row Ann are stories, buildings, people and events that have occured in Rowan County from 1700-1900. Included in miniature are the Sparks Circus, the N.C. Transportation Center, dolls that represent Elizabeth Maxwell Steele, Andrew Jackson, The Archibald Henderson Office, The Hall House and more.
The Rowan Doll Society meets monthly in Salisbury (usually at the Rufty Holmes Senior Center) and is comprised of members from a fifty mile radius. The study and enjoyment of dolls is the main focus of the club but displays that are both fun and educational are created for the public on a regular basis.
