Holiday Night Out is on Friday, Nov. 25 from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Salisbury. Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as the Grinch will make the first of their several downtown appearances during this free event. Take a free trolley ride to your favorite downtown destination, enjoy the sights from a horse-drawn carriage or enjoy the seasonal sounds of the musicians around downtown, including the a capella quartet Victorian Voices and accordionist Bob Wilusz.
The following day from 10 a.m. to noon, the Grinch and the Clauses will be at the Bell Tower Park, corner of W. Innes and S. Jackson Streets, with cookies and hot chocolate. Photos will be taken and posted on the Downtown Salisbury, Inc. website at www.DowntownSalisburyNC.com.

Gulley’s in town
Nick Badgio and Gulley (formerly known as the Chobey Badgio Band) will host a concert, Blast Waltz, at the Looking Glass Artist Collective’s black box theater on Saturday Nov. 26 from 8-11 p.m. Doors open at 7:45.
Performing with Gulley will be the Burlington based trio the Ends, and the reunion of local group William and the Geographers. The concert is free and pizza, beverages and beer will be sold. There will be a raffle for $100, no purchase is necessary.
The Blast Waltz features an interesting concept. There is no opener or closer — instead, bands will take turns performing by alternating four-song sets, an idea inspired by The Last Waltz, which featured the Band performing their songs and backing up other great artists, such Clapton, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young.

Spencer Tree Lighting
SPENCER — On Friday, Dec. 2, join the Spencer Hometown Holidays Committee as they usher in the Christmas season . Visitors can also get their picture made with Santa.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and the tree lighting is at 7. More than 500 luminaries will light up Spencer’s Library Park. Live entertainment includes Adam Bryoles, Central United Methodist Church’s Circus Train, North Hills Christian School’s Black Light Ministry, Caroline Nance, North Rowan Glee Club, Santa and the Steppin’ Out Dance Company.
‘A Christmas Carol’

Arc Festival of Trees
The 2011 Arc of Rowan Festival of Trees will be held Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday Dec. 4, a free holiday event for all ages. The festival features up to 50 decorated and illuminated Christmas trees showcased in the F&M Trolley Barn in Downtown Salisbury.

Mahler’s Fourth
GREENSBORO — The North Carolina Symphony, led by music director Grant Llewellyn and featuring concertmaster Brian Reagin and soprano Christina Pier, comes to Greensboro for “Mahler’s Fourth Symphony” on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m.
The concert takes place at Aycock Auditorium, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 408 Tate St., and includes the Violin Concerto by Mahler protégé Alban Berg and a contemporary masterpiece by composer Magnus Lindberg.
