Authorities are searching for a Salisbury man after police said he shot and killed the father of his ex-girlfriend’s children.
According to Salisbury Police, 20-year-old Terrell Jamal Bowman shot Dwante Patterson at 421 Mildred Avenue this afternoon during an argument. Patterson later died of his injuries at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Family members told the Post that Patterson was shot in the upper back.
Bowman is described as around 5-foot-9 and 157 pounds.
Salisbury Police Capt. Sheila Lingle said investigators have “a lead” on the suspect.
A neighbor told a Post reporter that Patterson came to the house where his children’s mother lives to pay someone for babysitting.
Bowman, who the woman called an ex-boyfriend, was there. He and Patterson got into an argument, and Bowman pulled out a gun and shot Patterson in the back, family members said. Patterson ran out of the house and down Mildred Avenue.
The shooter also ran out of the house and down Mildred Avenue, where he got into a car.
A neighbor and family members put the man in a van and were taking him to the hospital when they saw a police officer making a phone call at Curt and Geri’s Dairy Bar at the corner of South Main and Fulton streets. They stopped and screamed for the officer to help. An ambulance took the man from the business to the hospital.
Investigators believe Bowman may be driving a white Honda or Mazda sedan, a model from the late 1980s or early 1990s. They say the suspect left in the car.
