CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ó Mike Scott had 18 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night and Virginia used a 19-2 second-half run to take command and beat No. 14 Michigan 70-58 in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
Joe Harris added 18 points and freshman Malcolm Brogdon had 16 for the Cavaliers (6-1), who trailed 39-34 before Harris’ floater sparked the burst. Brogdon had eight points in the run, which made it 53-41 with 6:43 remaining. Scott had six points and Harris five.
The Wolverines (5-2), who used a 16-10 run starting the second half to match their biggest lead of the game, went 61/2 minutes without a point during one stretch as Virginia repeatedly rebounded missed shots and went the other way. The Cavaliers outrebounded Michigan 36-26.
Illinois 71, Maryland 62
COLLEGE PARK, Md. ó Sam Maniscalco scored 24 points, Brandon Paul had 17 and undefeated Illinois pulled away to a 71-62 victory over Maryland.
The Illini (7-0) trailed at halftime and led by only one point with 8 minutes left.
Terrell Stoglin scored 25 for Maryland (3-3) and James Padgett had 16. The Terrapins had won six straight in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and were riding a 13-game home winning streak against nonconference opponents.
NW 76, Georgia Tech 60
ATLANTA ó John Shurna, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, had 25 points to lead Northwestern past Georgia Tech 76-60.
Shurna, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, made three 3-pointer for Northwestern (6-0) .
Jason Morris led Georgia Tech (4-3) with a career-high 21 points.
