SPENCER — Aldermen in Spencer will take the oath of office Tuesday night and elect a mayor pro tem.
Tradition says the highest vote-getter earns the No. 1 spot on the town board. Jim Gobbel, in his first-ever run for office, topped the Spencer ballot last month.
Spencer holds a separate election for mayor. Jody Everhart ran unopposed and was re-elected mayor.
Judge Marshall Bickett will administer the oath of office to Everhart and the six aldermen — Gobbel, Scott Benfield, Kevin Jones, Jeff Morris, David Smith and Reid Walters — at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
Also on the agenda:
• Appointments to several boards
• Departmental reports
• Town manager and mayor’s reports
• Public comment
• Overview of financial report by Eddie Carrick
• Consideration of a resolution opposing the N.C. Voter Identification Act or any local bill to impose voter ID in Rowan County, as presented by Morris and Smith.
