U.S. Reps. Mel Watt, D-N.C., and Howard Coble, R-N.C., will be in Rowan County Wednesday as part of Congress’ August recess.
For the 13th year, Watt will be following a “Trading Places” schedule Monday-Thursday in which he works beside 12th District constituents at their daily jobs.
In Salisbury, Watt will be working as a clean air campaign consultant at the Catawba College Center for the Environment from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Other jobs Watt will be tackling in his district this week include small business consultant, church volunteer, research assistant, senior employment volunteer, health educator and nutrition specialist, recycler, home ownership counselor, fabricator/packer, school volunteer, Urban League trainee and assembly line technician.
Watt describes “Trading Places” as a way to stay in contact and hear some of his constituents’ concerns and opinions about how recent legislation has affected their lives.
“As always, I look forward to interacting with the workers and businesses in the 12th District to hear and experience their perspectives,” Watt said in a press release. “Working alongside my constituents and discussing their concerns provides an excellent first-hand opportunity for me to understand their needs and how I can serve them better in Washington.”
Coble, who represents the 6th District, also will be in Rowan County Wednesday.
After speaking Wednesday morning at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in High Point, Coble will attend an Americans for Prosperity “Bus Tour for Healthcare Rally” at Shelter No. 2 at Dan Nicholas Park, 6800 Bringle Ferry Road.
Coble is scheduled to speak at noon at the Salisbury Lions Club meeting at Fire Mountain Steak House, 730 Jake Alexander Blvd.
At 2:30 p.m., Coble will tour the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College research facility at 1333 S. Jake Alexander Blvd.
Coble’s week elsewhere in the district will include throwing out the first pitch at baseball games involving the Hi-Toms in Thomasville, the Grasshoppers in Greensboro and the Royals in Burlington; taping a television interview; appearing on a radio talk show; holding constituent appointments; touring the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Greensboro; touring the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro; touring Glen Raven Inc. in Burlington; and presenting medals to a veteran at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Burlington.
