100 Years of singing
CLEVELAND ó Old Providence Presbyterian Church, 5140 S. River Church Road, will host an old-fashioned gospel and shaped note singing, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1. People from three states have gathered for this event for more than 100 years.
A covered-dish dinner will follow the event.
The public is invited to attend, especially those who know how to sing shaped notes and demonstrate the rare art form.Gold Hill Wesleyan
GOLD HILL ó Gold Hill Wesleyan will hold its Vacation Bible School 6-8 p.m. Aug. 9-14. The theme is “Crocodile Dock.” Friday will be “Family Fun Night,” and include inflatables, water games, homemade ice cream, snow cones and more. Gold Hill Wesleyan is located at 830 Liberty Road in Gold Hill.
Piedmont Singing MenCONCORD ó The Piedmont Singing Men will be in concert Sunday at 6 p.m. at Friendship Methodist Church, 4695 Mount Pleasant Road.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Tent meeting
Beulah Land Baptist Church, 5435 Wildwood Road, will have a tent meeting Aug. 2-5 at 7 p.m. nightly.

CLEVELAND ó Cedar Grove AME Zion Church’s Gospel Choir will celebrate its anniversary today at 6 p.m. Sunday, the celebration will continue at 3 p.m. featuring the Price Sisters from Pageland, S. C. The public is invited.

Macedonia MissionarySunday, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its annual homecoming Service.
The speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be Pastor Dr. N.J. Jackson. Lunch will be served from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
The speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be Dr. George B. Jackson.
Revival services for Macedonia will be Aug. 4-7 beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Herbert Miller will be the speaker for the week.
Miller is a native of Winston-Salem and is the pastor of First Baptist Church in Lexington.

Organ Evangelical
On Aug. 9, Organ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, will have a homecoming picnic following the 10:30 a.m. worship service.The Rev. G. David Swygert, a former pastor of Organ Church, will be the guest speaker. His sermon will be “Fresh Life Every Day.” This is the 86th recorded homecoming. Organ celebrates 264 years in Rowan County and 49 years in their “new” building.
During the summer months of June, July and August, excluding homecoming day, Organ has two worship services. The 8:30 a.m. service is held in th old church and the 10:30 a.m. service in the new church. Sunday school is a 9:30 a.m.
Organ invites the public to attend and bring a covered dish to fellowship on their special day.
Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó Bishop T La’Trell Penny will be in revival at Love Christian Center Aug. 5-7, at 7 p.m. nightly.
Penny is the pastor and founder of Shubach Deliverance World Ministries, Sumter, S.C. and Victory Temple Church Inc., located in Greeleyville, S.C. Penny has been ministering for over a decade throughout the United States.

Study series
CONCORD ó Beginning Wednesday evening, Aug.5, a discussion series entitled “Visioning the Future Jesus Faith Tradition” will begin at Trinity United Church of Christ located at 38 Church St. NE, Concord. Classes will meet each Wednesday in August from 6:30-8 p.m. in the church community room. A complimentary fruit, cheese, dessert and iced tea will be offered at 6:15. The series is free and open to the public.
The series will be a presentation and discussion of the ideas of Bishop John Shelby Spong, advocating reform of the Jesus faith tradition. The series will be presented by Dan Carrigan, and is co-sponsored by Cabarrus Progressive Christians and Trinity United Church of Christ.

Trinity Baptist
Dr. Rod Bell will preach at Trinity Baptist Church in the 11 a.m. service on Sunday.
Bell is a graduate of Bob Jones University, and is the missions representative of the Calvary Baptist College in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
He is the founding pastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C. and pastored for 36 years to the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va. He served as president of the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship International from 1977 to 2003.

Union Lutheran
Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, will be celebrating 235 years of ministry this week.
Wednesday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 7, their preaching mission will be led by the Rev. Alex Hoffner of Christ the King Lutheran in Evans, Georgia at 7 p.m. in Union’s fellowship hall. His selected topic is “Worship in Every Direction ó Worship in the 21st Century.”Friday night’s service will be followed by the traditional homemade ice cream supper.
Homecoming will be observed at 10:30 on Sunday, Aug. 9 with the Rev. T.C. Plexico delivering the sermon “Heartbreak Hill.” Plexico served the NC Synod for 58 years and has strong ties to this community.
A covered dish luncheon and music on the grounds will follow worship. Union welcomes the community to the celebration.
Church Women United
For the local chapter of Church Women United, co-chairs Sarah Byerly and Mavis Moss, assisted by Jean Lowery, ecumenical celebrations chair, have spearheaded this year’s Human Rights Celebration, which will be held in the sanctuary of Southern City AME Zion Church, 904 S. Long St., East Spencer on Friday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring school supplies to this celebration. Ecumenical action chair, Montrella Davis, has arranged for these to be given to Rowan County Communities in Schools.
A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow the celebration, and the community is invited.
Dorsett Chapel
SPENCER ó Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ will hold their homecoming and revival Aug. 2- 5.
The 11 a.m. Sunday service will be rendered by their own pastor, Thomas Wyatt Jr., and the 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon speaker will be the Rev. Leamon Brown of First Calvary Baptist Church of Salisbury. Pastor Glenn Usry of Christian Outreach of the Piedmont Inc., Statesville, will be the speaker for a revival, which begins at 7 p.m. nightly.
