Held at the Rowan County Airport and Army Aviation Unit, the May 2009 Rowan County Spring Camporee focused on aviation while giving each Scout an opportunity to earn the aviation merit badge.
Some of the activities included airplane rides provided by EAA Chapter 1083, a detailed tour of the aviation shop, flying instructions, aircraft demonstrations and a tour of the National Guard fire station. All of the activities focused on educating Scouts about the impact aviation has on the efficiency of our society as well as how much fun flying can be as a hobby. Each Scout who registered and filled out an EAA Flight form was given an airplane ride.
Afterwards, Scouts and adult leaders assembled at Grace Lutheran Church in China Grove for the evening campfire. The event included skits and was followed by a flag retirement ceremony. Everyone was invited to take a piece of a flag and dedicate it to someone who was special to them.
Once the flag retirement concluded, the Order of the Arrow conducted its call out ceremony.
Those who helped with the camporee included Tim Agner, Al Wilson, EAA Chapter 1083, Rowan District Camporee Committee, Rowan County Airport, and the U.S. Army Aviation Unit.
