Rowan County District Attorney Bill Kenerly has announced he will retire at the end of his term. He provided the following statement to the Salisbury Post:
“In electing me District Attorney the people of Rowan County have honored me and have allowed me to fulfill my career goal. When my current term of office expires December 31, 2010, I will have served twenty years in that capacity and will be 65 years old.
“I am grateful to those who have supported me in five elections, and in the difficult decisions that are a requirement of this job.
“I intend to retire January 1, 2011. Therefore I will not file as a candidate for District Attorney, or any other office, during the filing period that commences in February 2010.
“I am making this announcement now so that our citizens, and potential candidates, will have ample opportunity to consider the future of criminal prosecution in Rowan County.”
