KANNAPOLIS ó Sawdust from a remodeling project apparently started a house fire Tuesday morning.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Kannapolis firefighters responded to a report of fire coming from the roof at 141 Briarcliff Drive, off South Main Street.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze and remained on the scene to put out hot spots.
The homeowner, James Rowell, was at home when the fire occurred. He was not injured.
Maria Bostian, public information officer for the fire department, said Rowell had been doing some remodeling to the one-story brick ranch-style home.
The investigation determined the cause was spontaneous combustion.
No damage estimate was available.
