Army National Guard Sgt. Dustin K. Dagenhart has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
The course teaches basic skills necessary for integration into the Army for all prior-service members to fully prepare them for Advanced Individual Training or to go on to their first assignment.
Soldiers undergo much of the same training developed in basic combat training, except it is developed in a program of instruction that lasts five weeks instead of nine. To complete the course, soldiers must complete the Army Physical Fitness Test with a minimum of 60 points in each event, M-16 weapon qualification, tactical foot marches, tactical field and situational training, and the land navigation course.
Dagenhart is the son of Wanda Dagenhart of Salisbury.
Randall Lee
Army National Guard Pvt. Randall S. Lee has enlisted in the N.C. Army National Guard, a reserve component of the U.S. Army, with a commitment to serve the local community, the state, and the nation.
Under the Recruit Sustainment Program, enlistees join and train with pay while preparing to attend and complete basic military training. The recruit attends weekend drill training until shipping out to attend basic training. The program allows the guard member to be better prepared to complete basic training and earn a monthly paycheck for training one weekend a month. After completing basic training, the guard member will attend advanced individual training to obtain a military occupational specialty at a designated military installation.
N.C. National Guard members are eligible to receive benefits such as a 100 percent paid four-year college education, a monthly allowance while attending a college or university full time, state-of-the-art job skills training, health care, life insurance, retirement and many other benefits associated with military service.
The citizen-soldier will be assigned as a member of Headquarters Battalion, 113th Field Artillery Brigade based in Mocksville.
The private will be assigned to the unit after completing basic military training, and advanced individual training to be a field artillery automated tactical data systems specialist.
He is the son of Barbara J. Stephens of Salisbury.
Lee is a graduate of Davie High School in Mocksville.
Zachary Herion
Senior Airman Zachary Herion was named the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing’s Tuskegee Airman of the Week for March 16-22.
Herion, 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group medical technician, assists and expedites wounded warriors to Germany where they can receive better health services.
While on duty, the Salisbury native deployed here from Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, and is a key leader in the area of responsibility’s trauma mission. Overall, Herion treated and prepared 39 critical-care patients during 16 aeromedical-evacuation missions.
Off-duty, Herion has earned nine semesters hours toward his Community College of the Air Force degree, and graduated with a 3.9 G.P.A. He also completed 20 hours in an Arabic-language course to aid in conversation with local-nation patients.
Herion’s supervisor, Senior Master Sgt. Jeff Streit, 332nd EMDG intensive care flight NCO in-charge, described Herion as a great airman who hit the ground running when arriving at JBB.
Herion enjoys what he does and has a mission to save lives. He wants to give patients the best care possible and show local-nation patients that people care about their well being.
Herion’s advice to airmen deployed in Iraq is to attend school, “further your knowledge” and submerge yourself in the immediate culture. Most importantly, “work hard.”
The 332nd AEW Tuskegee Airman of the Week is selected based on an airman’s accomplishments both on and off duty. Airmen in the pay of grades of E-1 to E-5 are eligible.
