FAIRVIEW (AP) ó A western North Carolina man has died after he was struck by lightning near his home.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that a storm that dumped 2 inches of rain in the Fairview area resulted in the lighting strike. Lt. Russ Dillingham with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department says the body of 65-year-old Michael Lynch was found about 6 p.m. Monday.
Dillingham said that family members reported Lynch missing. He had been clearing brush in a field near his home.
A medical examiner at Mission Hospital in Asheville confirmed Lynch died from being struck by lightning.
