A Salisbury woman was arrested Tuesday on multiple counts of doctor shopping to obtain prescriptions for controlled substances.
Maria Holshouser Biggers, 50, of 110 Rockwood Drive was charged with 25 counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud and seven counts of trafficking opium by possessing more than 24 grams of the controlled substance, according to arrest reports.
She was placed under $200,000 secured bond pending a first-appearance hearing Thursday in Rowan County District Court.
The offenses occurred between Jan. 2, 2008 and March 31, 2009. Biggers is charged with using a false name and/or date of birth to obtain 12 prescriptions of hydrocodone, a painkiller; five prescriptions of Clonazepam (Klonopin) and two prescriptions of Alprazolam (Xanax), both used to treat anxiety; and six prescriptions of Phentermine, an appetite suppressant, the reports say.
Biggers obtained the prescriptions from Dr. Yun Sun, Dr. Chris Laflure, Dr. Laura Keaton and Dr. J. Watson, according to reports.
