Dr. Tracy Espy, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Pfeiffer University, has been named editor of the new publication “Partnerships: A Journal of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement.”
Espy said the journal and Web site will focus on theories and practices that inform and improve partnerships, connections and collaborations. Collaborating universities include Elon, Appalachian State and Pfeiffer.
“We are so excited about the opportunity to use this peer-review journal to communicate reliable information written by well-respected experts on how to cultivate important and effective partnerships and best practices,” Espy told her virtual audience. “The ‘Partnerships’ site is accessible to both the campus and research community and will serve as an invaluable resource. We believe this new journal provides many great opportunities.”
According to Espy, it is an initiative sponsored by N.C. Campus Compact, a coalition of colleges and universities that work to increase campus-wide participation in community and public service. Espy, Norman Clark, faculty coordinator for Service-Learning and the Public Service Research Programs at Appalachian State; Dr. Michael Kimball, director of the Center for Honors, Scholarship and Leadership at Northern Colorado University; and Dr. Jo Allen, provost of Widener University, serve as members of the editorial team.
The publication’s articles will be co-authored by faculty, students and community partners.
The content will examine practices across disciplines and campuses and will explore international networks relative to service learning and community engagement.
The inaugural issue features articles by Dr. Robert Bringle, director of service learning at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and Dr. Harry Boyte, founder and co-director of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
Espy said all are encouraged to submit articles that follow the journal’s publication standards and guidelines.
The electronic journal at www.partnershipsjournal.org will initially be published bi-annually.
