U.S. Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., is urging his 12th District constituents to mark Memorial Day by volunteering for the Veterans History Project.
This Project relies upon volunteers to collect and preserve audio- and video-recorded oral histories from America’s war veterans and those civilians who served in support of them, along with other first-hand materials such as memoirs, photographs, diaries and letters.
“The Veterans History Project preserves the memories and experiences of veterans as part of the historical record of the nation,” Watt said.
“As we honor those who have fallen in military service to our country, I invite veterans, their friends and families, teachers, students, religious and civic groups to participate in this important project.”
The Veterans History Project team at the Library of Congress has prepared a set of guidelines, instructional materials and forms that should be followed if you choose to participate.
