The Salisbury Police Department is investigating the rape and beating of a woman who walked four miles with a broken neck and other broken bones.
The Post does not identify victims of sexual assault.
A 35-year-old Salisbury woman told police she had been playing cards and drinking at a friend’s house Friday.
She left the friend’s Long Street home to buy cigarettes. The woman walked to SpeeDee Mart near North Long Street and Park Avenue.
She said two men jumped her, then beat and raped her. She was knocked unconscious and robbed of $40.
A couple found the woman naked near Kerr Street along the railroad tracks. They took her to a home off Third Street in Spencer.
They cleaned her up and gave her clothes to wear. She left the home and walked four miles to a Kangaroo convenience store in Spencer, at the corner of Third Street and Salisbury Avenue, a report said.
A clerk at the convenience store called emergency officials. Spencer Police were called, then Salisbury Police when it was discovered the initial incident occurred in Salisbury. The Spencer Fire Department and Rowan EMS also responded.
The victim complained of back and neck pain.
Rowan Regional Medical Center doctors said the woman had a broken neck, broken cheekbone and cracked ribs.
Hospital officials say the woman has since been treated and released.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
