Historic Salisbury Foundation held its 25th Annual Preservation Awards luncheon Thursday at the Salisbury Station.
The foundation awards honor individuals, organizations and businesses that have made a significant contribution to historic preservation in Salisbury and Rowan County.
The 2009 Historic Preservation Award winners and the categories are:
– Commercial Revitalization through Historic Preservation ó Missy Alcorn and Lesleigh Drye for Caniche, Cheryl and Ted Goins for Pottery 101, Toby Hagmaier for Southern Spirit Gallery, Arba and Kirk Knapp for Tastebuds Coffee and Tea, and Judy and Scott Howard and Michael and Diane Young for Uncle Buck’s Pub & Grub.
– Private Preservation and Neighborhood Revitalization ó Garth and Belinda Birdsey, Mimi and the late Jonas Howard and Jon and Marilyn Untiedt.
– Long-time Preservation Leader ó Betty Dan Nicholas Spencer.
– Preservation Craftsmen and Professionals ó Eberhard Denker, Quality Painting and Wallpapering; and Jon E. Palmer, JP+A Architect, PLLC.
– Preservation Education and Publication ó “A Ramble Through Rowan’s History,” The Friends of the Rowan Public Library in collaboration with Rowan Public Library. Receiving the award were Jeff Hall and Dr. Gary Freeze.
– Volunteers of the Year ó Leslie Black, Mary Padavick and Barb Sorel.
– Hall House Volunteer Docent Recognition ó James Bevels, Nancy Bilson, Doug Black, Leslie Black, Trudy Hall, Don Heidt, Anita Miller, Hilda Ramseur, Donna Sherrill, John Thomas and Barbara Upright.
The Clement Cup, named in honor of preservation leader Edward Clement, is Historic Salisbury Foundation’s highest honor and was presented at an earlier event of the Andrew Jackson Society to Nancy and Bill Stanback for their commitment and dedication to the preservation of our community over many years.
Historic Salisbury Foundation is a private, nonprofit historic preservation organization charged with the mission of preserving, protecting and enhancing the architectural legacy of Salisbury and Rowan County.
It has saved and protected some 90 historic structures throughout the city over the last 30 years.
The foundation owns and operates the Salisbury Railroad Station, Dr. Josephus Hall House and Grimes Mill, all landmark structures for Salisbury.
