East Rowan shortstop Justin Roland has been named NPC Baseball Player of the Year.
East’s Brian Hightower was named NPC Baseball Coach of the Year after leading the Mustangs to a 29-5 record, a 3A runner-up finish and a perfect 18-0 slate in the NPC.
East also placed outfielders Micah Jarrett, Zach Smith and Ben Decelle, first baseman Trey Holmes, second baseman Ethan Fisher, third baseman Noah Holmes and pitchers Corbin Shive and Cody Laws on the All-NPC team.
West Rowan second baseman Tyler King, pitcher Zack Simpson, catcher Hernan Bautista and shortstop Philip Miclat made All-NPC.
South Rowan placed pitcher Ryan Bostian, shortstop Matt Ingold and second baseman Maverick Miles on the team.
Pitcher Randy Shepherd and freshman shortstop Gunnar Hogan represented Carson on the team.
– All-NPC softball
West Rowan senior shortstop Stacie Raney was named NPC Softball Player of the Year.
East Rowan’s Michael Waddell, who led the Mustangs to their first league championship in 10 years, was named NPC Coach of the Year.
Raney was joined on the All-NPC team by pitcher Sabrina Stephens, outfielders Erin Foster and Cindy Dickerson and third baseman Brooke Taylor.
East placed pitcher Chelsea White, shortstop Ericka Nesbitt, catcher Kayla Potts, first baseman Haley Barrier and outfielder Winter Heno on the team.
Carson shortstop Stephanie Sprinkle, outfielder Lauren Bost and catcher Alex Mendillo are All-NPC, along with South Rowan pitcher Taylor Lookabill.
– All-NPC soccer
West Rowan’s Brittany Gibbons and Allison Parker and East Rowan’s Hannah Wilson were named to the All-NPC soccer team.
Northwest Cabarrus’ Callie Simpkins was named NPC Player of the Year. Northwest’s Harold Von Klahr shared NPC Coach of the Year honors with Lake Norman’s Jon Mertes.

West Rowan sprinter Justin Avery shared NPC Runner of the Year honors with Mooresville’s Patrick Campbell.
East Rowan’s Wayne Parker, Carson’s Travis Jordan, West Rowan’s Trey Mashore and South Rowan’s B.J. Grant and Nathaniel Winslow joined Avery on All-NPC.
Mooresville’s Jake Deaton was named best in field events. Mooresville’s Michael Serefine was Coach of the Year.
– All-NPC girls track
South Rowan’s Olivia Jacobs, who excelled in the 800, 1600 and 3200, was named NPC Runner of the Year for girls track.
South’s Taylor May, Katherine Van Wieren and Emily Kinney, West Rowan’s Ayana Avery, East Rowan’s Jenny Hughes and Kasee Hepler and Carson’s Sierra Zemanick joined Jacobs on the All-NPC team.
Mooresville’s Maddy Knowland was tops in field events. Northwest Cabarrus’ Jeremy Cawley was named NPC Coach of the Year.
– All-NPC boys tennis
Carson’s Cory Kluttz was named to the All-NPC team for boys tennis.
Lake Norman’s Andrew McKinnon was named NPC Player of the Year.
– All-NPC boys golf
East Rowan’s Tyler Buckwell was named to the All-NPC team for boys golf.
Mooresville’s Josh Nelson was Golfer of the Year.
– All-CCC baseball
Ledford catcher Patrick Koontz, who hit 13 homers this season, was named CCC Player of the Year for baseball.
Co-champion Salisbury placed six players on the All-CCC team, including shortstop Robbie Ijames, who was runner-up in player of the year voting.
Pitcher Alex Britt, second baseman Ben Ijames, outfielders David Ijames and Russell Michalec and designated hitter Doug Seaman were the other Hornets named to the team.
North Rowan was represented on the team by pitcher Billy Veal.
Central Davidson’s Jonathan Brown was named CCC Coach of the Year. Salisbury’s Scott Maddox was runner-up.
– All-CCC boys tennis
Salisbury’s Joe Goodman was named CCC Player of the Year for boys tennis, and Salisbury’s Chris Myers was named CCC Coach of the Year, after leading the Hornets to a second-place finish behind Lexington.
Salisbury also placed Austin Flynn, Steven Page and Tyler Heilig on the All-CCC team.
– All-CCC soccer
Salisbury’s Jamie Dagenhart was runner-up to West Davidson’s Casey Darnell for CCC Player of the Year honors for girls soccer.
Dagenhart was joined on the All-CCC team by teammates Kaitlyn Cuevas, Ivy Brisbin, Lindsey Davis, Madison Kennedy and Maria Tonseth.
North Rowan was represented on the team by Natasha Small.
The CCC Coach of the Year is Lexington’s Tim DeZego.
– All-CCC softball
North Rowan pitcher Kristin Holshouser was named to the All-CCC softball team.
Central Davidson’s Chelsea Leonard was named CCC Player of the Year and Central’s Gene Poindexter was named CCC Coach of the Year. Central won the 2A state championship.
– Rowan Explosion wins
The Rowan Explosion defeated Davie 50-44 on Sunday at Gastonia Hunter Huss High to win the 14-under Division 3 championship in the USSSA girls state basketball tournament.
Kaitlyn Jones paced the Explosion with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Sydney Safrit added 14 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Haid was the rebound leader with 12 and added seven points. Carmen Lowe grabbed seven boards and blocked three shots, and Carrie Thompson had five rebounds. Summer Taylor and Lauren Miller each scored five points.
Other team members who played in the tournament were Shelby Wellmon, Cacy Honeycutt, Casey Gullett and Ashley Goins. The Explosion is coached by Allison Dupree.
– Intimidators fall
The Kannapolis Intimidators got five strong innings from starting pitcher Kevin Skogley but lost to visiting Greensboro 7-1 on Monday.
Kannapolis was held to five hits. Jimmy Gallagher knocked in the run.
– McCanless Couples
The McCanless Couples League played their weekly nine-hole match on Sunday with a Captain’s Choice format.
Brett Leslie and Yvonne Barger won with a 32. Pete and Mechelle Kuld shot 34 for second, while Matt and Lizz Murphy took third with a 36.
Pete Kuld won closest to the pin.
– McCanless 4-Ball
The 44th Annual Grady B. McCanless Memorial 4-Ball Tournament was played Saturday and Sunday with 36 two-man teams participating. Qualifying medalist honors went to Cole Buckwell and Cameron Spencer with a 65.
Flight winners are in Scoreboard.
– GARS golf
Seventy-seven GARS members played a Captain’s Choice event at Corbin Hills Golf Club on Monday.
Taking first place at minus-12 were Gene Dukes, Harry Hammer, Tom Longo and Mickey Ousley.
Second, also at minus-12, were JayBoyce, Harold Caudill, Bruce Munn and Vohn Peeler. R.C. Jones, Fritz Heno, Bob Kimball and Jeff Williams were third at minus-11.
Red Castor and Jim Bain were closest to pins. Bob Kimball made the longest putt on No. 9.
