A Rowan County man with a criminal history involving child abuse was taken into custody on Tuesday for first-degree murder charges.

According to a spokesperson with the Salisbury Police Department, David Alan Brady, 29, was charged in relation to the death of his infant child, which reportedly occurred in November of 2020. The spokesperson said that the infant died due to injuries consistent with assault while in Brady’s custody.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys assisted the police department with the case.

Brady was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and was not given a bond. Jail records indicate that Brady’s next court date is scheduled for December 25.

Per Salisbury Post reporting from 2022, Brady was arrested and charged with child abuse against an infant in March. 

“The SPD Criminal Division initiated an investigation after being notified that an infant had arrived at Novant Hospital on March 17 for treatment of injuries,” the report said. “(Brady) was booked into the Rowan County Detention Center (at that time) under a $500,000 bond.”

Both infants were reportedly Brady’s children. The extent of the injuries inflicted upon the infant in the March 2022 incident were not disclosed.
