SALISBURY — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Salisbury branch joined women around the world in the 2024 #InspireInclusion theme for its monthly meeting on March 11 at Rowan Public Library.
In collaboration with Livingstone College faculty, staff and students, AAUW members showcased an international cultural festival highlighting women’s empowerment and the progress made towards achieving gender equity.
Valerie Hatcher of Spanish Texas, Pilar Cabrera of the Dominican Republic, Nancy Oppong of Ghana, Isatu Kruah of Liberia and Nuhamin Bullo of Ethiopia discussed pertinent topics related to women and girls from their home to strive for a greater momentum towards gender equality worldwide.
The evening’s feature was author Dr. Carolyn Duncan who read from her debut novel, “Hasta Manana,” a work that explores illegal immigration, border patrol and a woman’s quest for justice. Attendees engaged in a video highlighting Constance Baker Motley’s recent US Stamp issuance and collectively engaged in a women’s litany.
Attendee Robert McInnis said, “As a man with daughters and granddaughters, it feels good to be in a place where women are supported and celebrated. I’m onboard to inspire inclusion.”
Branch president Da’Tarvia Parrish added, “It’s important to remember, everyone everywhere can help forge positive change for women and girls.”
