SALISBURY — More than 100 families, children, staff and community leaders gathered Monday to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Partners In Learning’s Norma’s Way Adventure Forest.
The name “Norma’s Way” pays homage to Partners In Learning’s long-time executive director, Norma Honeycutt, whose vision has always been to provide children with enriching experiences in nature.
“We are incredibly grateful to Brenda and Gerry Wood for their generous donation,” Honeycutt said. “Norma’s Way Adventure Forest will be a transformative space for children and families in our community, allowing them to connect with nature and learn through play.”
The event offered a glimpse into the world awaiting young explorers. Children participated in activities like zip-lining, meeting the residents of the on-site coop, Cluckingham Palace, planting in the Grow & Glow Greenhouse and unleashing their creativity at the Creative Corner.
Laughter filled the air as families explored the Reading Nook, relaxed on the buddy bench and built pint-sized masterpieces in the construction zone.
Norma’s Way Adventure Forest represents the culmination of a dedicated community effort.
David Freeze, a longtime supporter, shared his excitement.
“After years with Partners in Learning, I’ve watched the new Woods facility come together,” Freeze said. “Now, my granddaughter Monroe gets to experience it firsthand this summer. She was thrilled to explore everything the Adventure Forest offers — petting chickens, ziplining, even operating a mini-backhoe. She came home with a big smile and memories that will last a lifetime.”
Celia Jarrett, board chair spoke to the project’s broader significance: “This celebration is a beautiful culmination of our capital campaign. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re opening this facility debt-free, allowing us to focus on the needs of our families and children. The Adventure Forest reminds me of my own childhood adventures in nature. Now, children here can create their own stories, explore the wonders of the natural world, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment.”

“The Norma’s Way Adventure Forest is a dream come true,” Honeycutt said. “It’s truly an honor to have the forest named after me in honor of my years of service at Partners In Learning. It provides a unique space where children can learn, explore and connect with nature in a way that is both educational and enriching. We are so grateful to our community for their support in making this possible.”
Partners In Learning Clinical Services Director Cassie Karriker added, “The Adventure Forest is a wonderful resource for children of all abilities. The sensory elements throughout the space will be particularly beneficial for children with special needs. These elements will help to engage their senses, improve motor skills and promote social interaction.”
