GREENSBORO — Catawba College baseball head coach Jim Gantt earned ABCA/ATEC Division II Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Gantt picks up the honor from the coaches association for the fourth time in his career, earning the nod in each of the last three years the Catawba Indians advanced to the Division II National Championships in 2012, 2015 and 2019.
In his 28th season at head skipper for Catawba, Gantt led the Catawba Indians to a 46-win season, the 2024 South Atlantic Conference regular season title, the fourth Southeast Region title in program history and the program’s second-ever appearance in the national semifinal.
This year’s squad set Catawba program records for team triples, stolen bases and home wins, going an impressive 32-4 at Newman Park this season. Gantt adds ABCA Region Coach of the Year honors to his nod as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Region Coach of the Year.
With the honor, Gantt matched Columbus State’s Greg Appleton as the Southeast Region coach with the most Region Coach of the Year honors, both winning the award four times.
Gantt ended the 2024 season with 990 career wins.
