SALISBURY — Salisbury Academy recently welcomed two new members to its board of trustees — Vincia Benjamin Miller and Lisa Pope.
With a passion for leadership and service, Miller has 18 years of non-profit experience and more than 10 years of experience in higher education. She graduated from Livingstone College and earned her master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. She is currently the philanthropy coordinator at Novant Health Foundation.
In addition to her professional involvements, Miller is active in the community with organizations including Downtown Salisbury, Inc., Livingstone College National Alumni Association, American Association of University of Women, Families First-NC, and the Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center. Miller has a daughter enrolled in the fourth grade at Salisbury Academy.
Pope serves as the program lead for K-12 education at the Catawba College Center for the Environment, where she also coordinates the EnviroSmart Schools program, the Understory Project, and the National Environmental Summit.
Pope earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from N.C. State University and a master of arts in education from UNC-Charlotte.
Pope has great enthusiasm for exploring the outdoors with students of all ages and teaches in the Catawba College Department of Environment and Sustainability and the outdoor education concentration, where she supports the next generation of environmental professionals. Pope has two grandsons who are Salisbury Academy alumni.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these passionate community members to the Salisbury Academy Board of Trustees,” said Beverly Fowler, head of school. “Their unique experiences and skillsets will no doubt be beneficial to the school as we continue to evolve and uphold our standards of excellence.”
