WINSTON-SALEM — Salisbury’s boys finished third in Friday’s 1A/2A Indoor Track State Championships.

The Hornets scored 31 points, finishing behind Seaforth and Farmville Central. Twenty of those points came from two relay state titles.

The meet scored eight places.

Jordan Waller, Finnegan Avery, JD Davidson and Samuel Fatovic won the 4×800 relay in 8:13, finishing eight seconds ahead of second-place Brevard.

Davidson, Fatovic and Waller ran with Jaylyn Smith on a 4×400 winner. They ran 3:28.94 and won by more than 3 seconds.

Salisbury ran 3.5 seconds faster than it did in winning the 4×400 in the 2024 state meet. Fatovic, Waller and Smith also ran on the relay unit last season. Davidson filled some big shoes, stepping into the lineup for Jamal Rule, a big-time football recruit who transferred to Charlotte Christian.

The Hornets racked up another 10 points in the 300 meters, as Smith finished third and Waller placed fifth.

Fatovic accounted for one point with an eighth-place finish in the 1000 meters. He ran 2:46.83.

• Kimora Chawlk cleared 5 feet in the high jump. She was ninth and was the top performer for the Salisbury girls.

• Carson’s Eric Gillis was the standout for Rowan athletes in the 3A Indoor State Championships held in Winston-Salem on Saturday.
