College men’s volleyball: Catawba loses in 4 to Hawaii

SALISBURY — Catawba’s men’s volleyball team put up a fight on Saturday and won a set against fourth-ranked Hawaii.

Hawaii won the match 25-19, 25-11, 25-27 and 25-19 in front of 780 fans in Goodman Arena.

Kainoa Wade had 18 kills for the visitors, Finn Kearney had 14 kills. Victor Lowe had 45 assists.

Trevor Phillips led the Indians with 19 kills and nine digs. Eli Zdonek had nine kills and seven digs. Kristian Smith had 40 assists.

The Rainbow Warrios (13-1) won all four games on their tour of North Carolina. They had a sweep of Belmont Abbey and won 3-0 and 3-1 against Queens. The 3-1 victory over the Royals was on Saturday night.

Catawba (6-8) is home on Tuesday night against Barton.
