Monday games …

LANDIS — Strong pitching by Matthew Overcash and timely hitting by Drew Pegram led South Rowan to a 4-2 non-conference win against West Cabarrus.

South (6-3) had let a game slip away against the Wolverines (3-4) two days earlier at Atrium Health Ballpark.

Pegram drove in three runs as South took a 4-0 lead, and this time the Raiders held on. Overcash earned his third win of the season by striking out six and walking one in six innings.

Corbin Goodman earned a save.

Pegram, Conner Coy, Marshal Faw and Lucas Cox had two hits each to pace  the Raiders’ 11-hit attack. Faw and Cox had doubles. Coy scored twice.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s seven-game winning streak ended with a 7-5 loss to North Iredell.

The Falcons (8-2) got an early homer from Gaige Scruggs and took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Carter Durant’s sac fly.

Brant Graham pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts and was in line for the win, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. North Iredell got several clutch hits and took a 7-3 lead to the bottom of the seventh.

West nearly came back, loading the bases quickly with no outs on a bunt single by Scruggs and two walks. West was able to score twice, but the Raiders (7-1) held on.

North Iredell threw three left-handers at the Falcons and were able to slow down Cole Blevins and Maddox Moore.

Scruggs, Durant and Luke Ponczka had two hits each. Scruggs scored two, while Durant knocked in two.

Chase Fisher (1-1) took the loss.
