GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan beat West Rowan 6-0 to stay unbeaten and to take charge of first place in the South Piedmont Conference.
It was the first league loss for the Falcons (5-3, 5-1).
Chloe Shank drove in two runs with a two-out hit in the first inning as East took the lead. It stayed 2-0 until the Mustangs scored three times in the fifth.
Madi Tigert pitched the shutout for the Mustangs and held West to three hits. East played a strong game defensively.
Arabelle Shulenburger pitched well for the Falcons — eight strikeouts, one walk — but East was able to take advantage of three errors.
East (8-0, 5-0) got hits from Shank, Jordan Dry, Lily Kluttz, Camryn Perkins and Tigert.
Reese Poole had two hits for West, including a double. Taylor Keller had the other West hit.
MaxPreps ranks East first in 3A and seventh in the state.

LANDIS — South Rowan had a six-run fourth inning and beat Carson 10-0 in South Piedmont Conference action.
The Raiders (6-3, 3-3) ended the game by the mercy rule with a run in the fifth.
Remi Hagerty pitched the shutout. She struck out four with no walks.
South made contact. The Raiders had 11 hits and didn’t strike out. Nora Wheeler had a double and drove in five runs.
Lexie Ritchie walked three times, had a hit and scored twice. Carmen Thomas had two hits and drove in two. Leisha Carter had two hits and scored two. Hagerty had two hits. Avery Fisher had a double. Kynlee Dextraze scored two runs and drove in one. Cressley Patterson had an RBI. Danica Krieg had a hit and scored a run.
Emma Woodlief, Piper Thonen, Peyton Hollar, Abigail Harrelson and Caroline Snow had hits for the Cougars.
Caylee Snow pitched four innings.

SALISBURY — East Davidson scored 11 runs in the fourth inning and beat Salisbury 22-11 in Central Carolina Conference action.
The Hornets trailed 7-6 after three innings, but things unraveled in the fourth. The Hornets (4-4, 1-2) had eight errors in the game.
Allie Peeler’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Hornets.
Peeler had two hits. Dasmine Ambers and Ambrielle Keith had two RBIs. Peeler, Ashley Yang and Tijah Sims scored two runs each.
Sophie Hampton slugged a homer for the Golden Eagles (3-3, 1-0).

KANNAPOLIS – A.L. Brown won 4-2 against Lake Norman in Greater Metro Conference action.
MK Black relieved Isabella Butler in the third inning and shut out the Wildcats (6-3, 2-1) the rest of the way.
The Wonders (4-2, 3-1) scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the fourth inning.
Black had two hits, including a triple. Kennedy Yow also had a triple.
Madeline Cook, Marynda Blackwelder and Butler had RBIs.
