St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be offering a free midday concert series every Tuesday in April. Beginning at 12:10 p.m. each week, the community is invited to enjoy about 45 minutes of music from organists from across the N.C. Piedmont.
Adam Ward (April 1) is a former organist at First United Methodist in Salisbury and is currently director of music at Providence United Methodist in Charlotte; Timothy Olsen (April 8) heads the organ department at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and is cantor at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem; Nolan Anthony (April 15) is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (student of Dr. Olsen) and is director of music at Starling Avenue Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia; Nicholas Skaggs (April 22) is from Gastonia and is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (student of Dr. Fancey); Marya Fancey is a Fulbright Scholar and is lecturer in organ at UNCG and organist at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro.
St. Luke’s Music Director Stephen Williams shared that in addition to the impressive caliber of these musicians, “These wonderful concerts coincide with some recent organ updating and revoicing at St. Luke’s. You’re welcome to come and experience the differences, even though many of the changes were about subtlety and nuance. Each of our esteemed recitalists will approach the organ as an instrument very differently (and that’s a good thing). In the end, it will all be fascinating and beautiful. Come, join us.”
The entire community is invited each Tuesday in April at 12:10 p.m. A free-will offering opportunity to support arts programming at St. Luke’s will be available. St. Luke’s is located at 131 W. Council St. in downtown Salisbury. More information may be found at www.SLS.church or on the church’s Facebook page.
