GIRLS SOCCER

SALISBURY — Salisbury lost 3-2 to Lexington at home in a Central Carolina Conference match.

Salisbury (4-2, 2-2) got on the board first when Mariana Zapata scored on a rebound from a corner kick taken by Maddie Crabb. Gabbi Fatovic headed a ball that might have crossed the line, but it ricocheted off of the post and Zapata buried it to provide a 1-0 halftime lead.

“Our game plan had worked to perfection, but we just couldn’t maintain, Salisbury head coach Matt Parrish said. “Lexington scored just 13 seconds into the second half, and we fell apart. Fatigue really set in, injuries mounted, and we struggled to create many scoring chances. We are just banged up and short-handed.”

Fatovic scored on a line drive off the post that went in with less than three minutes left in the match, but it was not enough.

Salisbury got excellent play from Fatovic, Zapata, Audrey Urbina and Emma Ott.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have time to lament,” Parrish said.

Salisbury played at Thomasville on Thursday.
